Education and Certifications

Michael earned his MBA from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and JD from Southern Methodist University School of Law. Prior to earning his MBA and JD, Michael studied at Davidson College, where he graduated with a BA in art history and a concentration in international studies. Michael holds his Series 79 and Series 63 licenses with FINRA.


Professional Experience

Michael is a managing director at Meridian Capital and focuses on companies in retail, food and beverage, consumer products, and related industries. Michael is a seasoned corporate and business development executive with over 17 years of experience leading successful entrepreneurial ventures and M&A initiatives for leading fortune 500 companies and startups, including notable brands such as Nordstrom, Sony, Johnsonville, and Foster Farms. Before joining Meridian, Michael served as senior advisor to a boutique middle market investment bank, and led business and corporate development initiatives for Nordstrom. Prior to Nordstrom, Michael served as a consultant to Sony, and led a highly successful entertainment law practice, representing artists and producers with all major label groups and publishers. Michael began his career as a corporate/securities lawyer with the prestigious firms of Thompson & Knight (Dallas) and Cairncross & Hempelmann (Seattle). Then in 1998, he launched his first company, Visomark, offering trademark and copyright services via an innovative flat-fee platform, growing it quickly over three years and selling to a larger IP firm. Michael’s vast network includes leaders in fashion, food and beverage, retail and consumer products, and the world’s largest media, entertainment, and technology companies.


Community Service and Involvement

Michael is an avid supporter of the arts and music community, contributing frequently to the independent radio station KEXP. He is also a former board member of Seattle’s progressive performing arts center, On The Boards. While born and raised in the Appalachian Region of West Virginia, Michael has called the Seattle area his home since 1997 and currently lives with his family in Redmond. When not working, you can find Michael enjoying time with his wife and three sons, obsessing over interior design, catching an indie band live, or sampling many of the great Northwest wines.
