Professional Experience
Clare began his career in the United States Air Force, managing contracts with industries to develop manufacturing techniques for ceramic nose cones to protect the electronics in the emerging supersonic missile world. Next was CoorsTek, a manufacturer of technical ceramics for a wide range of applications, where he led the development of ceramic substrates for electronic circuits that became the platform for IBM and Western Electric thick and thin film circuitry. He served in a number of operating positions, from plant manager to VP of sales and group vice president, and was on the board of CT for two subsidiaries, one of which was a very successful manufacturing company in Singapore. He left Coors to return to Seattle, where he co-founded and was managing partner of Materia Ventures, a venture fund investing in early-stage companies with advanced materials technologies.

Community Service and Involvement
Clare has been active in community organizations in Bellevue and the University of Washington and served as a commissioner of the Port of Seattle. He is currently a board member and treasurer of Qualco Energy, a nonprofit operation in Monroe transitioning dairy cow waste into electricity and putting it back on the grid, and a board member and treasurer of The Northwest Parkinson’s Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting and serving the needs of the Parkinson Community.
